Taj Mahal called him "Wonderboy, the Wunderkind" after pulling him onstage in 2015, and that moment pretty much set the trajectory for Jontavious Willis. This Georgia born country blues guitarist, singer and multi instrumentalist plays across Delta, Piedmont and Texas styles, handling fingerpicking, flatpicking and slide with equal ease, plus harmonica and five string banjo on top of that. He taught himself all of it. His self released debut Blue Metamorphosis (2017) picked up strong reviews from Living Blues and Blues and Rhythm and later won Best Self Produced CD at the International Blues Challenge. His follow up Spectacular Class, produced by Keb' Mo' with Taj Mahal as executive producer, debuted at number 12 on the Billboard Blues Albums Chart and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album in 2020. Willis also toured as support for the Taj Mahal and Keb' Mo' TajMo project, which itself won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2018.
