Erwin Nyhoff & The Prodigal Sons

About

Erwin Nyhoff first made his mark in the early nineties as the frontman of The Prodigal Sons, riding a wave of radio play with the nederpop classic You Still Think. The band's debut album Wine of Life came out in 1993, and gigs at Pinkpop and Lowlands followed, along with support slots for Pearl Jam and Alanis Morissette and two invitations to South by Southwest in Austin. When the band split, Nyhoff went solo, but his praised album Take Your Time lost its label backing and slipped into obscurity, leaving him to take whatever work he could find, dishwashing included, while still playing anywhere that would have him. His persistence eventually paid off. A performance of Bruce Springsteen's The River on The Voice of Holland brought him in front of millions of viewers, convincing all the coaches and carrying him to the final. Since then he has played venues like Paradiso, Carré and De Zwarte Cross and contributed to several theatre productions. Reunited with former band members, Nyhoff now performs a set that mixes Prodigal Sons classics with his solo work, a blend of bluesy southern rock built on more than thirty years of hard won experience.
