Girls in Hawaii are a Belgian indie rock and indie pop band from Braine l'Alleud who built a devoted following across Europe long before most of their peers had left the country. Their debut LP From Here To There, released in late 2003, traveled far enough to land a US release through China Shop Music and prompted a West Coast tour in 2006. Their second album Plan Your Escape was recorded in old houses in the Ardennes Forest with producer Jean Lamoot, known for his work with Noir Désir and Alain Bashung, and the results were noticeably more complex and eclectic than their first record. The band lost drummer Denis Wielemans in a car accident in 2010, a loss that shaped everything that followed. They pushed through it, releasing the album Everest in 2013, then Nocturne in 2017, which found them exploring electronic sounds. In late 2023 they sold out four nights at the Ancienne Belgique celebrating the 20th anniversary of From Here To There, and announced they were working on a fifth album. That record, Eldorado, is due in 2026, with the single "Is It Happening Right Now?" already out ahead of it.
