About

Goodnight, Texas is a folk rock duo built around a clever geographic joke: songwriters Avi Vinocur, formerly of The Stone Foxes, and Patrick Dyer Wolf are based in San Francisco and Chapel Hill, North Carolina respectively, and the town of Goodnight, Texas sits right at the midpoint. They've played the tiny town itself three times. Their 2012 debut A Long Life of Living drew comparisons to Levon Helm, Bruce Springsteen, Elliott Smith and Punch Brothers, and on release day the band hand delivered CDs to every resident of Goodnight. Since then the band has built a quietly impressive résumé. Their song "The Railroad" anchored a Coors Banquet ad with Sam Elliott's voice, became the theme for the AudioBoom podcast Dead Man Talking, and opened the first episode of Tiger King on Netflix. Vinocur has also made repeated appearances with Metallica, singing backing vocals at benefit concerts, the S&M2 shows with the San Francisco Symphony, and on The Howard Stern Show. The band's cover of Metallica's "Of Wolf and Man" hit number one on Amazon's Country charts as part of The Metallica Blacklist in 2021.
