Halsey built a fanbase from scratch by posting music on Tumblr and YouTube before signing with Astralwerks in 2014. Her debut album Badlands landed at number two on the Billboard 200 and went double platinum, with singles like "Colors" and "New Americana" announcing a sharp, atmospheric pop sound with alternative and electropop textures. The feature on the Chainsmokers' "Closer" in 2016 pushed her to a different level entirely, topping charts in the US and ten other countries and earning an 18x platinum certification. From there, each album has taken a different direction. Hopeless Fountain Kingdom leaned into radio pop and debuted at number one, while Manic became her best selling record globally, led by the diamond certified "Without Me". Her fourth album If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power went much darker and more industrial, and after parting ways with Capitol, she signed with Columbia and released The Great Impersonator in 2024. She also collaborated with Amy Lee on a track for the Ballerina film in 2025.
