About
Joanne Robertson makes music that sits firmly in experimental territory, and she's probably best known to most listeners through her work alongside avant garde musician Dean Blunt on albums like The Redeemer and Black Metal. Those collaborations helped establish her as a genuinely distinctive voice in the British underground. Her own 2025 album Blurrr landed on several year end lists, signalling that her solo work is getting the wider attention it deserves. Robertson describes her creative process as deeply improvisational, letting ideas emerge in the moment rather than mapping everything out in advance. German artist Jutta Koether is a cited influence, which gives you a sense of the art world sensibility running through her work. She also published a poetry collection with Byron Coley back in 2018, titled 1971 (A Year in Record Reviews Poems), and released the EP Painting Stupid Girls that same year. She is currently based in Glasgow.
