Jon Hopkins makes electronic music that moves between pounding techno and near silence, and the tension between those two poles is basically his whole thing. The London producer built serious credibility through collaborations with Brian Eno and a stint contributing to Coldplay's Viva la Vida, where his piece "Light Through the Veins" ended up as the introduction to the album's opening track. His own albums are where he really stretches out: Immunity (2013) and Singularity both earned Grammy or Mercury Prize nominations, and Singularity picked up a Grammy nod for Best Dance/Electronic Album. His sixth record, Music for Psychedelic Therapy, leaned deep into ambient and contemplative sound design. More recently, tracks like "Forever Held" and "RITUAL (evocation)" have been appearing, suggesting he is still very much in motion.
