Kelis made her name with a voice and attitude that cut through the late 90s R&B scene, landing her debut album Kaleidoscope in 1999 after hooking up with production duo the Neptunes. That record found far more love in the UK than at home, with "Caught Out There" cracking the top five on the UK Singles Chart. Her third album Tasty changed everything stateside: "Milkshake" hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the kind of song that refuses to leave your head. She followed that with Kelis Was Here, which landed a US top 20 hit in "Bossy" featuring Too Short. Rather than coast on that momentum, she trained in culinary arts at Le Cordon Bleu and let that passion shape her sixth album Food, a neo soul record that spawned "Jerk Ribs" and became her second top 20 album in the UK. Her range as a collaborator is genuinely impressive, spanning artists like Björk, Disclosure, Giorgio Moroder, Outkast and Duran Duran. Ten of her singles have peaked inside the UK top ten, and she has sold six million records worldwide.
