Few artists can claim a career that started with a single song becoming a national standard, but that's exactly what happened when Laura Pausini won the newcomer section of the Sanremo Music Festival in 1993 with "La solitudine". The track turned into an international hit, her debut album sold two million copies worldwide, and the follow up sold three million. From there she just kept building, releasing fifteen studio albums and recording in a remarkable range of languages, from Italian and Spanish to Portuguese, French, German, Catalan, Chinese and beyond. Pausini picked up a Grammy in 2006 for Best Latin Pop Album for Escucha, and in 2014 FIMI certified over 70 million records sold, placing her as the best selling non Spanish speaking female artist in Latin music. She has also branched out into television, coaching on The Voice in Mexico and Spain, judging on La banda and the Spanish X Factor, and co hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Her song "Io sì (Seen)" from the film The Life Ahead won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song, the first Italian language song ever to do so.
