Most people know Lou Rhodes as the voice of Lamb, the Manchester duo that made a name blending electronica with jazz and drum and bass. Her solo work goes somewhere entirely different: acoustic guitars, violin, double bass, and a folk sensibility that was always there but largely hidden while she was fronting the band. Her debut solo album Beloved One got shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize, and critics compared her singer songwriter style to Nick Drake. The solo catalogue now runs to four albums, with theyesandeye from 2016 co produced by Simon Byrt and featuring a cover of Angels by The xx. She has never been shy about collaborating across genres, lending her vocals to 808 State, A Guy Called Gerald, Funkstörung, and The Cinematic Orchestra, among others. More recently she teamed up with Rohan Heath to form the project Kiiōtō, releasing the debut album As Dust We Rise in July 2024 on Nude Records. Lyrically she writes almost entirely about love and emotion, something she admits she wrestles with but cannot seem to escape.
