About
Tom Waits once described Jesca Hoop's music as "like going swimming in a lake at night" and called her "a good witch or a red moon", which gives you a pretty good sense of what you're in for. The California born singer songwriter blends folk, rock and electronic textures into something that resists easy categorisation, and she's the first to admit it, often joking that she has an identity crisis with every new batch of songs. Her debut Kismet landed in 2007 on a Columbia subsidiary, but a label reshuffle cut the run short. Undeterred, she relocated to Manchester and spent a year and a half crafting Hunting My Dress, which kicked off a prolific stretch that has produced seven studio albums in total. Stonechild hit number one on the UK Official Independent Album Breakers Chart in 2019, and her duets record with Sam Beam of Iron and Wine, Love Letter for Fire, showed just how well her voice translates into collaborative settings.
