Luke Combs built his name the hard way, grinding through three independent EPs before his 2017 debut album This One's for You took off. That album's first single, "Hurricane", hit number one on country airplay and stayed there for two weeks, and he kept that momentum going by scoring number one with each of his first five singles, a streak that included "When It Rains It Pours", "One Number Away", "She Got the Best of Me", and "Beautiful Crazy". His second album, What You See Is What You Get, topped charts in multiple territories and produced four more number ones. Combs has a knack for sturdy, radio ready country with real emotional weight, and his fanbase reflects that. His cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" on his fourth album, Gettin' Old, became the most streamed track on the record and climbed to number two on the Billboard Hot 100, outperforming Chapman's own 1988 original in chart position. It won him Single of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards in 2023, and he has taken home the CMA Entertainer of the Year honor twice.
