About
Also known as: MDSLKTR, Modeselector
Modeselektor took their name from a function on the Roland Space Echo, and they have spent years refusing to be pinned to one sound. In an interview around the release of Happy Birthday! they described their music as happy metal, hard rap, country ambient and Russian crunk, and said they don't care much for style labels. The Berlin duo, Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, built their name on BPitch Control, then launched their own label, Monkeytown Records. Their guest lists are a highlight: Thom Yorke, a big fan, turns up on Shipwreck and This, alongside Otto von Schirach, Siriusmo, Paul St. Hilaire and Maxïmo Park. They are also half of Moderat, teaming up with Apparat for four albums. On their own, they put out Who Else in 2019, with singles featuring Flohio and Tommy Cash, followed by Extended in 2021 and a DJ Kicks mix in 2025. They have even made sound installations for the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
