About
Monolord are a three piece doom metal outfit from Gothenburg, Sweden, and their sound is exactly what that description promises: slow, crushing riffs wrapped in a genuinely ominous atmosphere. Thomas Jäger handles vocals and guitar, Mika Häkki plays bass, and Esben Willems drives it all on drums. Jäger and Willems previously played together in Swedish boogie rock band Marulk before starting Monolord as a side project, and once Häkki joined, they began recording almost immediately. Their debut album Empress Rising dropped in 2014, kicking off a run of records on RidingEasy Records that also included Vaenir and Rust. In late 2018 they signed to Relapse Records, a move that signalled a new chapter, and they followed it up with No Comfort in 2019 and Your Time To Shine in 2021. They have toured extensively in Europe, including support slots for Black Label Society on their European tour in 2018.
