Few New York metal acts have stayed as stubbornly in the game as Pro Pain. Formed in 1991 by vocalist and bassist Gary Meskil and drummer Dan Richardson, both veterans of Crumbsuckers, the band built their sound on a bruising mix of hardcore punk and groove metal that earned them a deal with Roadrunner Records after their debut Foul Taste of Freedom. Their second album The Truth Hurts got itself banned over its autopsy sleeve art, which tells you something about where the band's head was at. Meskil is the one constant in a lineup that has shuffled constantly over three decades, and Pro Pain has kept releasing records across labels including Nuclear Blast and Candlelight. A violent robbery and attempted murder in Belgium in 2017 while on tour could have ended things, but the band pushed on. Stone Cold Anger arrived in 2026 on Napalm Records, their first studio album in eleven years.
