Royel Otis are a Sydney duo built around the names of their two members: Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic, who connected over a shared record collection back in 2019. Their sound pulls from indie rock, new wave, post punk and psychedelic pop, giving their songs a retro texture that feels fresh rather than nostalgic. Breakthrough single "Oysters in My Pocket" landed them a spot on Spotify's RADAR program, and their third EP Sofa Kings charted in Australia before things got significantly bigger. Their viral cover of Sophie Ellis Bextor's "Murder on the Dancefloor" for Triple J hit number one on the US Alternative Radio Chart, and their debut album Pratts & Pain debuted at number one in Australia in early 2024. A SiriusXM cover of the Cranberries' "Linger" then became a global social media moment, reaching the Billboard Hot 100. The duo sold over 100,000 tickets across Australia, the UK, Europe and the US in a single year, signed to Capitol Records, and followed it all up with their second album Hickey in August 2025.
