About
Also known as: Sammy Rae
Sammy Rae & The Friends pull from jazz, soul, funk, rock and pop in a way that feels genuinely alive, with a big ensemble sound built around audience participation and tight interplay between horns, rhythm section and backing vocalists. Bandleader Samantha "Sammy Rae" Bowers has pointed to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band as a key touchstone for group dynamics, alongside Queen, Fleetwood Mac and the Beatles. The Brooklyn outfit built their reputation on high energy live shows before a wider audience found them partly through Spotify's Discover Weekly playlist. Their debut studio album Something for Everybody arrived in September 2024 on Nettwerk, capping a run that included two sold out nights at Washington DC's 9:30 Club and a slot at North Sea Jazz in Rotterdam. In July 2025 they dropped a surprise covers album called Songs We Wish We Wrote, and later that summer they appeared at the Newport Folk Festival.
