About
Also known as: Pineapple Thief
Sixteen studio albums deep and still going strong, The Pineapple Thief have carved out a distinct corner of progressive rock since Bruce Soord started the project in Somerset back in 1999. The name came from a line of dialogue in the film Eve's Bayou, which tells you something about Soord's ear for the unexpected. Over the years the band grew from a solo outlet into a full group, picking up Kscope as their label home and landing a seriously impressive drummer in Gavin Harrison, known from his work with Porcupine Tree and King Crimson. Their sound sits somewhere between atmospheric art rock and heavier prog, and their catalogue ranges from intimate, orchestral arrangements to dense, textured guitar work. The 2020 album Versions of the Truth brought them wider attention, and they kept the momentum going with It Leads to This in early 2024, accompanied by the single The Frost. With sixteen studio records behind them and no sign of slowing down, they remain one of the more consistently interesting acts in modern progressive rock.
