About
Those Penny Pinchers are a Dutch act that made a sharp turn into new musical territory with their debut album, An Ode To A Rounder. The record opens with Song Bird and packs eight tracks into roughly twenty minutes, which gives you a sense of where they stand: tight, direct, no filler. The writing rewards repeat listens too, with different songs grabbing your attention each time around. The band describes their sound as a move into a new genre, with a nod to the bluegrass tradition of Kentucky in the wordplay around their album title. What comes through clearly is a no nonsense approach to songwriting that values brevity and punch over anything overworked or showy.
