About
Two Door Cinema Club got their name from a happy accident: Sam Halliday kept mispronouncing the name of their local cinema in Bangor, Northern Ireland, and the mistake stuck. The trio, completed by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Alex Trimble and bassist Kevin Baird, broke through with their 2010 debut Tourist History, a sharp, energetic record that landed them on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and earned a Choice Music Prize nomination for Irish Album of the Year. Produced with Philippe Zdar in Paris, it established their knack for tightly wound indie rock with plenty of synth texture underneath. Their second album Beacon hit number one in Ireland and number two in the UK in 2012, with Jacknife Lee producing, the same name behind records by U2 and R.E.M. They kept the momentum going with Gameshow in 2016 and False Alarm in 2019, then in 2022 put out Keep On Smiling on the independent label Lower Third, featuring singles like Wonderful Life and Lucky. Festival regulars at Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds, they have built one of the more quietly consistent careers in indie rock.
