Trio Bier (NL)

About

Also known as: Oud West

Trio Bier is a cult band from Amsterdam that has outlived a name change, a break from playing, tours through Yemen and Greece, and a pandemic. It all started on the street in Antwerp, where they played covers, mostly smartlappen, until the hat held enough for a round of beer. After an evening at Paradiso they decided to write their own songs, and three were ready the next day. The songs kept coming and have added up to six albums. The sound is Dutch language pop with sax and accordion, mixed with tango, waltzes, polka and americana, fronted by the crooning all rounder Jan Eilander. Their classic 'Amsterdam, Oude Wolf' was named the city's signature song by the newspaper Het Parool, and the band performed it in Carré. They also ran their own club nights at KHL and the Melkweg for three years, giving young talent a stage and inviting writers, poets and fellow musicians to join in.
