Named after the east London district made infamous by Jack the Ripper, Whitechapel have spent nearly two decades carving out a serious place in deathcore. Founded in Knoxville, Tennessee in 2006 by vocalist Phil Bozeman and guitarist Ben Savage, the band hit a commercial peak with their fifth album Our Endless War in 2014, which debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and moved around 16,000 copies in its first week. That kind of chart traction is rare for music this heavy, and it cemented them as one of the genre's most consistent acts. Their seventh album The Valley drew critical praise and showed a willingness to stretch beyond pure brutality, while their ninth record Hymns in Dissonance arrived in March 2025. Bozeman has been sharing vocal one takes from the new album, giving fans a raw, unfiltered look at how the record came together. Signed to Metal Blade Records since 2007, the core lineup has stayed remarkably stable, which likely has a lot to do with how tight and purposeful their sound has remained.
