Agnes Obel writes songs that feel like they exist in their own quiet atmosphere, somewhere between folk, ambient pop and art pop, built around her piano and a near whispered voice that reviewers have compared to Ane Brun and Eva Cassidy. She writes, plays, records and produces everything herself, and that self contained quality comes through in every record. Her 2010 debut Philharmonics went gold in Belgium and swept five Danish Music Awards in 2011, including Best Album and Best Debut Artist. Her follow up Aventine charted in the top 40 in nine countries, and her third album Citizen of Glass earned her the IMPALA Album of the Year Award for 2016. In 2018 she curated a Late Night Tales compilation, pulling together names like Nina Simone, Henry Mancini and Can, which tells you plenty about where her taste sits. Her fourth album Myopia arrived in 2020.
