About
Also known as: Анна Лехнер
Anja Lechner is a German cellist who likes to trace where Bach's music came from and how it echoed through later composers. Born in Kassel, she builds solo programmes that move without a break from the viola da gamba repertoire of Tobias Hume, through Bach, to the music of Carl Friedrich Abel. That idea sits at the heart of her album Hume, Bach, Abel, where the worlds of the viola da gamba and the cello blend into one flowing, atmospheric whole. Gramophone picked up on exactly that quality. Her approach treats old repertoire less as a museum piece and more as a single conversation running across the centuries.
