Ariel Posen comes out of Winnipeg and makes music that refuses to sit still in one genre. Rock and roll, Americana, blue eyed soul, R&B and Beatles tinged pop all find their way into his sound, often within the same song. Before going solo he played with rootsrock outfit The Bros. Landreth, and his reputation as a guitarist grew to the point where he was working alongside John Mayer and Tom Jones. Rolling Stone once called him a modern day guitar hero, which gives you a fair sense of where he sits. His album Bannatyne pulls together twelve tracks built around big riffs, driving tempos and the kind of syncopated grooves and unexpected textures that have become his signature. The record circles around the idea of revisiting your past in order to make sense of the present, and threads in echoes of the 1990s rock that shaped him, without ever sounding like a nostalgia trip.
