Cage the Elephant built their reputation on restless reinvention, and their catalog proves it. The Bowling Green, Kentucky band broke through with their self titled 2008 debut, a scrappy mix of classic rock, blues, funk, and punk that spawned "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked," a song so ubiquitous it ended up in the Borderlands video game and a Hollywood film. Rather than coast on that momentum, they pushed harder with Thank You, Happy Birthday in 2011, drawing on Pixies and Nirvana to make something rawer and louder, and followed that with Melophobia in 2013, a deliberate attempt to carve out a sound entirely their own. Tell Me I'm Pretty, produced by Dan Auerbach in 2015, earned them a Grammy for Best Rock Album, and Social Cues repeated that trick in 2020. Six studio albums in, with Neon Pill arriving in 2024, they show no sign of settling into a formula. Few bands in the alternative rock space have managed to win the Grammys twice while still sounding genuinely restless.
