Portugal. The Man built a reputation for relentless output before most people had heard of them, dropping album after album through the late 2000s on their own label Approaching AIRballoons. The Wasilla, Alaska outfit blends indie rock, neo psychedelia and pop into something that feels both restless and melodic, with frontman John Gourley and bassist Zach Carothers at the core of everything. Their fourth record, The Satanic Satanist, drew on memories and stories from Gourley's Alaskan youth, while the Atlantic Records era brought a more polished sound on albums like In the Mountain in the Cloud. The moment that pushed them into mainstream ears was "Feel It Still" from their 2017 album Woodstock, a record named after the festival Gourley's father once attended. The song landed them a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and cracked charts worldwide. Songs from their catalog have also appeared in the FIFA video game series, including "Live In The Moment" in FIFA 18, keeping their music in front of new audiences well beyond the festival circuit.
