Ella Mai built her reputation on a slow burn. Her 2017 track "Boo'd Up" spent months quietly gaining traction on social media and in clubs before exploding into a proper hit, peaking at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and breaking the record for the most weeks at number one by a woman on the R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart. It won Best R&B Song at the Grammy Awards, with a Song of the Year nomination alongside it. Her self titled debut album followed in 2018, a 16 track set featuring guest spots from John Legend, H.E.R., and Chris Brown, and it landed at number five on the Billboard 200. Originally from London, she was spotted by producer DJ Mustard after posting music to SoundCloud and Instagram, which led to a deal with his 10 Summers Records. Her second album, Heart on My Sleeve, arrived in 2022 with the single "DFMU", and lately she has been putting out new material including "Little Things" in late 2024.
