H.E.R. kept her identity deliberately mysterious when she dropped her debut EP in 2016, letting the music do the talking before anyone even knew her name. That slow burning, emotionally raw R&B caught fire quickly, with Rihanna playing her track "Focus" on Instagram and artists like Alicia Keys and Bryson Tiller spreading the word. Her self titled compilation album peaked at number 23 on the Billboard 200 and took home Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance for "Best Part", her collaboration with Daniel Caesar. Since then, H.E.R. has stacked up an extraordinary range of accolades. Her protest single "I Can't Breathe" won Grammy Song of the Year, and "Fight for You" from Judas and the Black Messiah brought her an Academy Award for Best Original Song, making her the first Gen Z artist to win that prize. Her debut studio album Back of My Mind hit number six on the Billboard 200, and she also picked up a Children's and Family Emmy for her work on the Obama animated series We the People.
