Few singers can claim they stepped in to front one of metal's biggest bands with 48 hours' notice, but that's exactly what Floor Jansen did when Nightwish called her in 2012 to finish the Imaginaerum World Tour after Anette Olzon's departure. She held her own so convincingly that by October 2013, the Finnish symphonic metal band made her their permanent lead vocalist. Since then she has fronted three Nightwish studio albums, including Endless Forms Most Beautiful, Human. :II: Nature., and Yesterwynde. Before Nightwish, Jansen had already put in serious years as the driving force behind After Forever, where she handled both vocals and songwriting, and later led her own band ReVamp through two albums. She is also a regular collaborator of Arjen Anthony Lucassen, lending her voice to multiple Ayreon records and joining his progressive metal project Star One. In 2023 she released her debut solo album Paragon, and she even stepped in as opening act for Metallica in Amsterdam at short notice that same year. A second solo album is now in the works.
