About
Fontaines D.C. built their reputation on a kind of urgency that felt genuinely literary, rooted in post punk grit and a deep love of poetry. The Dublin five piece released their debut album Dogrel in 2019 to serious critical heat, landing a Mercury Prize nomination and topping Rough Trade's Album of the Year list. Their sound drew comparisons to the contemporary wave of British and Irish post punk acts, but Grian Chatten's deadpan Dublin drawl and the band's poetic sensibility set them apart. They kept building from there. A Hero's Death scored a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album, then Skinty Fia went to number one in both Ireland and the UK and earned them a Brit Award for International Group. Their fourth album Romance arrived in 2024 with two Grammy nominations, a Mercury Prize nod, and their first charting UK single in Starburster. The band also moved to XL Recordings for that record, working with producer James Ford.
