Heather Nova grew up on a 42 foot sailboat her father built, which probably explains the restless, oceanic quality that runs through her folk rock and indie pop sound. Born in Bermuda and based in London from 1990, she built her following the old fashioned way, playing pubs and releasing records on the indie label Big Cat before her album Oyster broke her to a wider audience in 1994. Her third record, Siren, pushed her into the mainstream when tracks landed on the US TV shows Felicity and Dawson's Creek, and she toured the Lilith Fair alongside Sarah McLachlan. Over a career spanning more than 120 songs, she has recorded with Mercury Rev as her backing band, collaborated with German trance producer ATB on the international hit Renegade, and written an English lyric for Dutch band BLØF. Storm went top five in Germany, Redbird followed it into the top ten there, and she has stayed prolific ever since, releasing Pearl in 2019.
