About

Also known as: James Lloyd Morrison, James Morrision

Few musicians can claim they played the wrong national anthem at a Davis Cup final and lived to laugh about it, but that's just a footnote in James Morrison's career. The Sydney born trumpeter is one of Australia's most versatile jazz players, equally at home on trombone, saxophone, flugelhorn, tuba, double bass, guitar, and piano. He composed and performed the opening fanfare at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, won Best Jazz Album at the 2010 ARIA Music Awards alongside The Idea of North for Feels Like Spring, and once conducted a 7,224 piece orchestra at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium, setting a world record for the largest orchestra ever assembled. His collaborations read like a who's who of jazz royalty, including Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, and Frank Sinatra. He founded the band on the Edge with German composer Simon Stockhausen, recorded for Lalo Schifrin's Jazz Meets the Symphony series with both the London and Czech National symphony orchestras, and has spent decades nurturing young talent through his long association with Generations in Jazz. Morrison is not just a performer but a genuine force in keeping jazz alive and growing.
