Julia Jacklin makes the kind of music that sneaks up on you. The Blue Mountains singer songwriter blends indie folk, alternative country and indie pop into songs that feel unguarded and deeply personal, and critics have taken notice since her debut album Don't Let the Kids Win landed in 2016. That record, produced by Ben Edwards in New Zealand, drew comparisons that put her on stages at Glastonbury, Newport Folk Festival and SXSW, where outlets like The New York Times and NME gave her rave reviews. Her second album Crushing, released in 2019 and produced by Burke Reid, hit an average score of 85 on Metacritic and showed Jacklin sharpening her songwriting around themes of personal space and emotional boundaries. The single Head Alone became a talking point for exactly that reason. She also plays in the band Phantastic Ferniture, who put out a self titled album in 2018. Her third solo record Pre Pleasure followed in 2022, recorded in Montreal.
