Kandace Springs operates in a space where jazz piano tradition and soulful vocals feel genuinely inseparable, and that combination caught Prince's attention early enough that he personally invited her on stage. The Nashville born singer and pianist signed to Blue Note Records and built her reputation through a string of albums that kept her rooted in the jazz vocal tradition while pulling in modern R&B textures. Her 2018 record Indigo, produced by Karriem Riggins, features a trumpet solo by Roy Hargrove and sits comfortably between classic vocal jazz and something more contemporary. The Women Who Raised Me from 2020 is a covers album paying tribute to vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Sade, with Springs bringing her own piano centered phrasing to every track. She has performed on late night television across the board, from David Letterman to Jimmy Fallon, and collaborated with artists as varied as Ghostface Killah and trumpeter Terence Blanchard. Her 2024 album Run Your Race and 2025 follow up Lady in Satin show she is still very much in motion.
