LaFee, the stage name of Christina Klein from Stolberg, broke through in German speaking Europe with a kind of theatrical, attitude heavy pop that felt tailor made for Bravo magazine covers. Her self titled debut and the follow up Jetzt erst recht both shot to number one in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with singles like "Heul doch" cracking the German top 10 and her early shows drawing crowds of over a hundred thousand at the Brandenburg Gate. She also stepped in front of the camera, appearing in the German soap Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten alongside her music career. After a run of four studio albums including the English language release Shut Up, LaFee stepped away from her label setup, parted ways with manager Bob Arnz and rebuilt almost from scratch. The 2011 comeback album Frei marked a clear shift: she co wrote several of the tracks herself and steered toward themes of love and growing up, reflecting how much she had changed since her teenage debut. By that point she had already moved more than a million records worldwide.
