Leon Bridges burst onto the scene with Coming Home in 2015, an album that sounded like it had been pulled straight out of a 1960s soul studio, with vintage recording equipment and a style that drew comparisons to Otis Redding and Sam Cooke. The record landed a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album and turned Bridges into one of the more surprising breakout stories of that year. He did not stay in the past for long, though. His follow up Good Thing pulled from 1980s quiet storm and 1990s neo soul, and his single "Bet Ain't Worth The Hand" took home the Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance. Gold Diggers Sound continued that evolution with his own take on 1990s and 2000s R&B, earning critical praise and another Grammy nod. He has also stepped in front of the camera, playing revolutionary poet Gil Scott Heron in the Neil Armstrong biopic First Man.
