Margaret Glaspy makes the kind of folk leaning guitar music that sounds deceptively simple until you realise how precisely every note is placed. Based in New York City and signed to ATO Records, she self produced her debut full length Emotions and Math in 2016, a record that drew serious critical attention and introduced her knack for sharp, emotionally direct songwriting. That same year, tracks like "You and I" and "Somebody to Anybody" set the tone for what she does best: spare arrangements that carry a surprising amount of weight. Since then she has kept a steady pace. Devotion followed in 2020, then Echo the Diamond in 2023, and her 2025 release The Golden Heart Protector shows no sign of slowing down. She has also shared stages with artists like Neko Case and Kimya Dawson, holding her own in fine company. There is a quiet confidence to her output that rewards close listening.
