About
Few bands commit to a visual identity quite like Slipknot. The nine piece from Des Moines built their reputation on masks, numbered members, and a sound that smashes together heavy metal aggression with the rhythmic weight of multiple percussionists. Their 1999 self titled debut launched them out of nowhere, and the follow up Iowa pushed things even darker and heavier, cementing a fanbase that was fiercely loyal from the start. Over the years the lineup has shifted significantly. Bassist Paul Gray, one of the founding members, passed away in 2010, and the band paid tribute with.5: The Gray Chapter in 2014. Joey Jordison was dismissed in 2013, and more departures followed over the next decade. Through it all, percussionist Shawn Crahan has remained the sole founding member still in the band. With seven studio albums, 30 million records sold worldwide, and a seventh record The End, So Far arriving in 2022, Slipknot keep evolving while staying unmistakably themselves.
