Vanessa Paradis was just 14 when 'Joe le taxi' went to number one in France for eleven weeks and cracked the UK top three, an unusual feat for a French language song. That early breakthrough set the tone for a career that spans pop, chanson française and pop rock, with collaborators ranging from Serge Gainsbourg, who wrote her 1990 album Variations sur le même t'aime, to Lenny Kravitz, who produced her self titled English language album and co wrote 'Be My Baby', which gave her a top five hit in France and a top ten in the UK. She has never been just a singer. Her acting work includes Girl on the Bridge, Heartbreaker, and Café de Flore, for which she won the Genie Award for Best Actress. On top of that, she has been the face of Chanel since 1991, appearing on over 300 magazine covers worldwide. Her 2007 album Divinidylle, made with Matthieu Chedid among others, sold 400,000 copies in France alone and earned her two Victoires de la Musique awards.
