Ricardo Valdez Valentine Jr. goes by 6LACK (pronounced "Black"), and his sound sits right at the intersection of R&B, hip hop, and something a little darker and more introspective. After signing his first record deal in 2011 and spending years with little creative freedom, he finally broke through when he moved to label Love Renaissance in partnership with Interscope Records. His 2016 debut album FREE 6LACK announced him properly, with the platinum certified track PRBLMS earning him international recognition. His 2018 follow up East Atlanta Love Letter landed at number three on the Billboard 200 and featured collaborations with J. Cole, Future, Offset, and Khalid. The record was praised for its introspective lyrics and melancholic tone, qualities that have become his trademark. He has also appeared alongside artists like Normani, Lil Tjay, and T Pain, showing a versatility that keeps his work unpredictable.
