Alex Henry Foster built his name as the frontman of Montreal rock band Your Favorite Enemies, but his solo work has carved out its own serious reputation. His debut solo album Windows in the Sky, recorded largely in Tangier after a period of personal grief, hit number 6 on the Billboard Canadian Albums Chart and landed him an ADISQ nomination for Anglophone album of the year. The live album Standing Under Bright Lights, drawn from a sold out set at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, charted in Canada, the UK, Australia and Ireland within days of release. Foster records out of a former Catholic church in Drummondville, Quebec, through his own label Hopeful Tragedy Records. His 2024 album Kimiyo, co created with Japanese Canadian artist Momoka Tobari, and the instrumental record A Measure of Shape and Sounds both earned ADISQ nominations. A Nightfall Ritual, a live EP from a Cologne concert that marked his return to the stage after cardiac surgery, came out in 2025.
