About
Dev Hynes makes music as Blood Orange, a project where his art pop instincts run completely free. Originally from London, he moved to New York in his early twenties and has been based on the Lower East Side ever since, weaving the sounds of the city literally into his recordings through street recordings made on his walks around Manhattan. His music sits somewhere between raw and ethereal, drawing comparisons to Prince for its genre bending range and psychedelic edge. Beyond his own albums, including Freetown Sound, he has written songs for artists including Solange Knowles and Kylie Minogue. Live, his sets tend toward the minimal: guitar, vocals, and a laptop, all at once intimate and inventive.
