Franz Ferdinand built their reputation on sharp, danceable indie rock that felt urgent and angular right from the start. Formed in Glasgow in 2002, the band broke through with "Take Me Out", which hit number three in the UK and went on to top Australia's Triple J Hottest 100 for 2004 by a landslide. Their self titled debut album won the Mercury Prize and earned Grammy nominations, with NME placing it at the top of their best albums of 2004 list. Over the years the band kept evolving, shifting toward a more dance oriented sound by their third album Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, and even branching out with a supergroup project alongside Sparks, releasing FFS in 2015. Line up changes followed, with new members Julian Corrie and Dino Bardot joining by 2017 and drummer Audrey Tait coming on board in 2021. Their sixth studio album The Human Fear arrived in January 2025 to commercial success, showing the band still very much in motion.
