Kaiser Chiefs built their reputation on music that sounds like it was made for packed venues and sweaty crowds. The Leeds five piece grew out of an earlier band called Parva, reinvented themselves with a new name borrowed from the South African football club that ex Leeds United captain Lucas Radebe once played for, and quickly became one of the most recognisable British rock acts of the 2000s. Their debut album Employment sold over three million copies, went five times platinum in the UK, and won them three Brit Awards including Best British Group, plus an Ivor Novello for Best Album. Songs like 'I Predict a Riot' and the UK number one 'Ruby' became genuine anthems, with their combined singles tally topping a million sales. The band draws heavily on late 1970s and 1980s new wave and punk rock, giving their music a punchy, immediate feel. They have kept releasing records ever since Employment, with their eighth studio album arriving in 2024, showing no sign of slowing down.
