Rafet El Roman has been a fixture in Turkish pop since the mid 1990s, when his debut album Gençliğin Gözyaşı shifted over a million copies and turned tracks like "Seni Seviyorum" and "Sorma Neden" into household names. Born in Turkey but raised in Germany, he brings a transatlantic feel to his music and writes his own lyrics, something that sets him apart in the Turkish pop landscape. His sixth album Sürgün became his best seller, and his seventh, Kalbimin Sultanı, went straight to the top of the charts on release, earning him the MÜ YAP Golden Butterfly and a POPSAV award for most successful pop singer of the year. Beyond music, El Roman has carved out a genuine acting career, appearing alongside Turkish cinema legends Kemal Sunal and Metin Akpınar in the 1999 film Propaganda, and taking the lead role in Dar Alanda Kısa Paslaşmalar in 2000. He has collaborated with singers including Aşkın Nur Yengi and, more recently, Hülya Avşar, and has kept releasing new material well into the 2020s, with singles dropping regularly through 2021 and 2022.
