About
Syd built her reputation as the sole female member of Odd Future, serving as the collective's DJ and producer while navigating a group whose lyrics often clashed hard with her openly gay identity. She co founded The Internet in 2011, and after years of shaping that band's smooth, hazy R&B sound, she stepped out on her own with the solo album Fin in 2017, featuring production from fellow Internet member Steve Lacy. Her second solo record, Broken Hearts Club, arrived in 2022 and started as a collection of love songs before a real breakup reshaped it into something rawer and more personal. Her fingerprints turn up in some unexpected places too. She co wrote and co produced the Beyoncé track "Plastic Off the Sofa" from Renaissance, and she has appeared as a featured artist on records by Lil Uzi Vert and Zayn. The range of those collaborations says a lot about where she sits: rooted in R&B and neo soul, but with enough versatility to move comfortably across genre lines.
