Few bands in the post hardcore world wear their emotional weight as openly as The Amity Affliction. The Gympie, Queensland outfit has built a devoted following on songs that deal unflinchingly with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide, much of it drawn from vocalist Joel Birch's own experiences. That raw honesty has paid off commercially too: their second album Youngbloods debuted at number 6 on the ARIA charts, and their fourth record Let the Ocean Take Me hit number 1 in Australia. Over nine studio albums, the band has refined a sound that sits at the harder, more melodic end of post hardcore, with Birch's confessional lyrics remaining the constant thread. The current lineup of Birch, guitarist Dan Brown, and bassist Jonathan Reeves keeps the band moving forward, with their most recent album House of Cards arriving in 2026.
