About
The Fray built their name on piano driven rock with a knack for emotionally loaded melodies, and their debut album How to Save a Life proved that combination could work on a massive scale. Released in 2005 on Epic Records, the album went quadruple platinum in the US, powered by two huge singles: "Over My Head (Cable Car)", which peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100, and the title track, which climbed to number three. Both scored Grammy nominations, and the band landed at number 84 on Billboard's Artists of the Decade list. Critics often compared them to Coldplay and Keane for their piano forward sound, though the band cites Counting Crows, Better Than Ezra, and U2 as their own touchstones. Their self titled second album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, with "You Found Me" giving them a third top ten single and another Grammy nomination. Later records Scars & Stories and Helios kept them on the charts without quite matching those earlier peaks. After Isaac Slade departed in 2022, the remaining members regrouped as a trio and released the EP The Fray Is Back in 2024.
