About
VOCES8 is a British a cappella octet that covers serious ground across classical, jazz, pop, folk, and their own arrangements, often with major orchestras like the Royal Philharmonic and the Philharmonia in the mix. Founded in 2003 by brothers Paul and Barnaby Smith, the group started performing in 2005 and has built a genuinely international profile since then. Barnaby Smith remains the artistic leader and a singer in the group, which currently features eight voices ranging from soprano to bass. Beyond their recordings and concert work, VOCES8 runs the VOCES8 Foundation focused on music education, as well as a training programme for young singers in the UK and the US. They have collaborated with composers including Ola Gjeilo, Ēriks Ešenvalds, and Christopher Tin, and worked alongside artists such as Eric Whitacre and Paul Simon. Since 2020 they have also hosted LIVE from London, an annual online choral festival that grew out of the pandemic.
